Our Story
London Jets was founded by Canadian hockey players who wanted to create a regular weekly ball hockey session to be able to keep playing hockey despite relocating to London. The club has grown to include players from all over the world, including a number of great young British players, and Czech and Slovak expats.
We give everyone a chance, but focus on creating a fun, competitive environment where the quality of play make our sessions the best weekly ball hockey scrimmage in the UK.
What is Ball Hockey?
Ball hockey (or street hockey, road hockey, DEK hockey) is a fast-paced, high-energy sport that emphasizes teamwork, skill, and strategy. Ball hockey is a team sport and a variation of ice hockey, where the game is played on foot and players use ice hockey sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's net. It is a popular sport in many countries, particularly in Canada, where it is played at both recreational and competitive levels.
The playing surface can be any hard surface, such as a gymnasium floor, asphalt, or concrete. The game is played with five players and a goalie on each team, and the objective is to score more goals than the opposing team.
The top international ball hockey competition is run by the International Street and Ball Hockey Federation (ISBHF), which hosts the World Ball Hockey Championships every two years.
